2008 Houston Pride Celebration

Theme: "We Are Family!"
Join Heights Democrats and other Democratic Clubs as we march in the 2nd largest parade in Houston!!
We are #29. Our staging area will be on Harold St. between Hazard and Woodhead by 7:30pm. Parade kickoff at 8:45
Come join the celebration!
Saturday night, June 28, 2008
30 years of GLBT Pride in Houston. Featuring a colorful disco theme, Pride 2008 reminds us that for the past 30 years, and into the distant future, We Are Family!
The 2008 Pride Celebration will feature the traditional Parade down Westheimer, between Dunlavy and Crocker. The 2008 Houston Pride Parade is the largest in the southwest, and the only one held at night, starting promptly at 8:45 PM. At night, the Parade takes on a new dimension. A spectacular fusion of light and sound, the resonant excitement of thousands of energized celebrants fills the air. Want more information? For general Parade info, click *here*. If you wish to participate in this year’s parade, click *here* for the online application.
Prior to the Parade, you can enjoy the 2008 Houston Pride Festival. Admission is FREE! The funs starts 12 PM, and continues until 7 PM, so you’ll still have plenty of time to find a good spot to enjoy the Parade! Win great prizes playing carnival games, take your pick of clothing, accessories, one-of-a-kind GLBT souvenirs, and gifts for every taste! While you shop, enjoy the best summertime foods and relax in the refreshing Pride Oasis. Or party, dance, and take in select entertainment at your choice of 2 Stages. Click *here* for more Festival information. If you’d like to set up a booth or become a vendor at the Festival, please click *here* to access the online application, or send an Email to festival-exhibitors@pridehouston.org
Code Pink to Impeach Bush will lead our unit pulling a trailer with a lighted VOTE sign.

No other parade entry personifies the theme of "Family"as precisely as does the Harris County Democratic Party. Indeed HCDP is the ultimate Family because it is the umbrella organization for all local Democrats. Our group includes elected officials, reform minded candidates running for office, numerous neighborhood Democratic clubs, individual activists, but most importantly, VOLUNTEERS, just as yourselves!! The Democratic Party has always and proudly supported the GLBT agenda; and several of our candidates on the November ballot are openly gay.
The "MPeach Bush Art Truck" represents action that should have been taken years ago to preserve the Constitution and protect the civil liberties of all Americans. However, despite this missed opportunity, we now embrace, but paraphrase the lyrics of Sister Sledge: "I got all my Democrats with me, so get up EVERYBODY, and VOTE for our family!!"

BILL KELLY NAMED GENERAL CAMPAIGN MANAGER FOR 2008 COORDINATED CAMPAIGN
BILL KELLY has been named General Campaign Manager for the Harris County Democratic Party 2008 Coordinated Campaign. Bill’s campaign experience includes his having served as Campaign Manger for State Representative Ellen Cohen’s successful campaign for Texas Legislature in 2006, resulting in the unseating of the Republican incumbent in a district which had voted heavily for Republican candidates in the past, Campaign Manager for Council Member Peter Brown’s successful citywide campaign for city council at large position 1 in 2005, Field Director for State Representative Hubert Vo’s historic and victorious campaign for the Texas Legislature against an entrenched Republican incumbent House committee chair in 2004, and Deputy Field Director for Houston Mayor Bill White’s campaign for mayor of the City of Houston in 2003.
In his new role as General Campaign Manager for the HCDP coordinated campaign, Kelly will be responsible for organizing and implementing the party’s countywide effort to elect Democrats in every position on the ballot in November 2008 in Harris County. Bill’s past endeavors have produced monumental and historic victories in every campaign with which he has been associated throughout his career as a political organizer/field director/campaign manager in this community. A graduate of The Honors College at the University of Houston, Bill serves of the Houston Chapter of Planned Parenthood Young Leaders board and the Houston Alumni Board for Sigma Phi Epsilon, and is the outgoing Vice President of Finance for the Texas Young Democrats.
The Harris County Democratic Party is proud and excited about having BILL KELLY as its general manager for the 2008 coordinated campaign and its effort to Turn Harris County Blue!
David Mincberg, Candidate for County Judge
The Democratic candidate for chief of Harris County government criticized the Republican incumbent’s approach to ethics reform Friday in a demonstration of how Democrats plan to wage campaigns from multiple angles well ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
