CANCELLED: Friday, Sept. 18 Mayoral Candidate Forum

Posted in Events, GHDC Blog at 8:08 pm by M Beauregard

Greater Heights Democrats learned today that the Montrose Area Democrats Mayoral Debate has been Cancelled.  Greater Heights Democrats is also very disappointed in the three campaigns decision not to honor their commitments.  We had planned to join M.A.D. for our meeting this month.  Please note:
There are no plans for GHDC to have a meeting.
We also wish to thank those that had work so hard to have this debate.

"We have received a form letter from the Brown, Locke and Parker campaigns canceling their participation in the Montrose Area Democrats (M.A.D.) Mayoral Debate, scheduled for this Friday, September 18.  Without candidate participation, M.A.D. must now call off the debate itself.  The debate was to be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church hall and would have been free and open to anyone who wished to attend.

We are deeply disappointed by the three campaigns’ decision not to honor their commitments, both verbal and written.

We had hoped to engage the candidates in matters important to Montrose such as fair allocation of resources, political reunification for Montrose, City Council redistricting and other issues.  The cancellation comes after we have put a great deal of time and effort into arranging the forum.  All details had been finalized, including sound, seating, refreshments, security and debate protocols.  We had received generous financial sponsorships from State Representative Garnet Coleman, State Senator John Whitmire, Heights Democrats and Mark’s American Cuisine, among others.  We had arranged for a respected moderator and panelists who would have ensured a lively, informative debate.

Many thanks to all those who participated in organizing the forum.  Montrose Area Democrats is committed to making sure that the voice of our unique neighborhood is heard and that our diverse community is equally represented in political matters.  Those who share these goals should consider joining us at www.montroseareademocrats.org"
