The Heights Democratic Club is a neighborhood-based, subgroup in affiliation with the Harris County Democratic Party. It was established to promote the ideas and beliefs of the Democratic party. We achieve our mission by recruiting speakers for our members from candidates and elected officals at all levels of government. We are called the Greater Heights Democratic Club because we welcome members from adjacent areas to the Heights, particularly inside the Loop between I-10 and Loop 610. Actually we welcome anyone of any belief, as long as they help us promote Democratic causes and candidates.

Nancy Pelosi made history when she became the first woman Speaker of the House in January 2007. She brings to her leadership role more than 20 years of experience in the House representing the city of San Francisco. In a candid conversation with Progressive Forum president, Randall Morton, Pelosi will discuss the broad range of challenges facing the nation and the world, a rare and timely opportunity for Houstonians. This is also an ideal event for families, especially girls. Pelosi will discuss her book, relate personal stories, and encourage women to get into politics. She’ll share lessons learned on her way to becoming the highest ranking woman in politics. She’ll sign books and greet fans at the end of the evening.

All attendees receive a complimentary copy of Pelosi’s book, Know Your Power: A Message To America’s Daughters, plus a Progressive Forum bookplate commemorating the evening.

Dear Friends,
Please join me on May 5th at 6:30 pm at Reagan High School (413 E. 13th Street) in the Heights for a town hall meeting the purpose of which is to garner the community’s opinion on a profile for the next HISD Superintendent. As the HISD District 1 Trustee, I will be co-hosting this town hall meeting with the search firm hired by HISD to conduct our Superintendent search, Heidrick & Struggles. Each of us has a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing public education and our next Superintendent and I hope you’ll take the time to share your perspective with our search firm. (Additionally, I will be holding a Forum on May 6th at 8:00 a.m. at Jeff Davis High School for HISD District 1 PTO and PTA Presidents, so please determine which venue would be most appropriate and join me!) You are, no doubt, aware of the important role the HISD Superintendent plays in our community, so I hope you’ll help the HISD Board of Trustees and Heidrick & Struggles in moving down the right path in our search. We need your input and I welcome you to join the town hall meeting and share your views.
If you’re unable to make the meeting on the 5th, there are several other meetings going on around town which you can attend:
COMMUNITY FORUMS • May 4: 6:30 p.m., Revere Middle School, 10502 Briar Forest • May 5: 6:30 p.m., Reagan High School, 413 E. 13th • May 7: 6:30 p.m., Deady Middle School, 2500 Broadway • May 9: 2 p.m., Ryan Middle School, 2610 Elgin
See you soon!
