Dr. Robert David Sanborn is a noted leader, advocate, & activist for education and children and the President/CEO of Children at Risk in Houston, Texas, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to innovative change for children through research, education, and public policy. Dr. Sanborn leads Children at Risk with a dedication to inventive ideas, collaborations with like-minded groups, resource developing partnerships, and a belief that all children deserve extraordinary opportunities to succeed.
Dr. Sanborn has worked and served as a senior leader with many organizations, always bringing with him a focus on innovation and education. He has served on the staff and/or faculties of Rice University, Hampshire College, Columbia University, the University of Tulsa, Emory University and the University of Massachusetts. He was previously the CEO of the Education Foundation of Harris County where his accomplishments included a significant rise in resources, partnerships and visibility for innovative urban public education.
Dr. Sanborn earned his undergraduate degree at Florida State University and his doctorate at Columbia University in New York City. He has also served as an advisor and board member to numerous non-profit organizations.

Dr. Sanborn is an editor of the upcoming Growing Up in Houston book and has authored 12 books and over forty articles on education, career development and related education topics. He has hosted his own radio and television programs, and has spoken to numerous conferences, civic, business, education, and student groups on a variety of topics. He has lived and worked around the world and has called home to places in Europe, Africa, and Latin

The City of Houston will conduct combined public meetings on the City’s FY2009 Annual Operating Budget, FY2010-2014 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and 2008 Annual Consolidated Plan. 

 
Since 1984, the City has held public meetings to obtain citizen input before preparation of the operating budget and capital improvement plan. These meetings provide citizens the opportunity to participate in the budget process through contributing comments and suggestions about needed services and improvements.
 
Citizen Request Forms will be provided at each meeting for your comments/suggestions. You can also obtain forms online at the following web page http://www.houstontx.gov/cao/2009cip/2009cip-requestform.pd
for by calling the Mayor’s Citizens’ Assistance Office at (832) 393-0955.
 
The City of Houston will provide reasonable accommodations to citizens with disabilities/special needs upon request one week in advance of the meeting. Citizens are encouraged to call (832) 393-0955 for arrangements.

INTRODUCING A NEW EVENING WITH HCDP: ISSUES AND ANSWERS SERIES
Brown Bag Luncheons have been so successful, we thought we would add a nighttime program, too. So please join Harris County Democratic Party Thursday, January 22nd, 6:00 p.m. at the Party Headquarters located at 1445 N. Loop West, Suite 110, Houston, Texas 77008 (exit Ella Blvd.), as we debut our brand new “Evening with HCDP Issues and Answers Series.” The Series will focus on informing Democrats and other interested citizens about important policy issues facing our community and nation. The series will be patterned after our very popular Brown Bag Luncheon Series but will afford an opportunity to those who cannot get away for lunch to hear dynamic speakers discuss important topics while enjoying light refreshments and good Democratic fellowship.

Day Of Service – Call for Action: 
Trash clean up along White Oak Bayou
 
President -elect Barack Obama has called all Americans to take part in a national day of service.  This renewed call for volunteerism is to remind all Americans what ordinary people can accomplish when we stand together.
 
The Harris County Tejano Democrats and The Greater Heights Democratic Club will co-host a trash clean up along White Oak Bayou in the Houston Heights area.   We along with President -elect Barack Obama are calling you to action.
 
Join us this Saturday January 17, 2009 at 9:00am in the parking lot for the upper softball field on White Oak Dr.  in The Houston Heights.  Look for the The Greater Heights Democratic Club and Tejano Democrats Banners on a White Tent. Please bring your own set of gloves.  We will provide water and Trash Bags.

I am a volunteer on the Carnival Ticket Sales Committee for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™.  We sell (1) HALF-PRICE Carnival Packs, good for carnival rides & games, and (2) Reliant Park Admission Tickets (also good for admission into the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest).  See attached flyers (English & Spanish).

The ROADwomen monthly meeting falls on Inauguration Day this year.  We are having a Champagne Celebration, and we invite your club members to join us.  There is no charge for the event, but we do need RSVPs so we can be sure to have enough food and champagne.  Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
