In Memoriam: Maria W. Gable

Maria was a member who attended our meetings regularly.  We are truly saddened to hear of her untimely and tragic death.   We will certainly miss her dynamic Democratic enthusiasm and energy !!

MARIA W. GABLE, born January 27, 1932 to Friedrich and Maria Mueller Wuest in Wertheim, Germany, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 12, 2007 after being struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Houston. Maria grew up in Germany during WW II, where she walked two miles in the snow to school. She began her nursing career in Germany and worked at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, the VA Hospital in Houston and retired from Civil Service. Mrs. Gable was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Houston Saengerbund, Heights Homeowners Association, Heights Democrats, and as a Court Visitor. She is preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Bill Eugene Gable, and her brother, Emil Schultz. She is survived by daughters, Annette White, and Rosemarie Barnes and husband, Gene; sons, Michael Gable, John Gable and wife, Luann, and Robert Gable and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Vincent Gable, Robert Gable, Montana Barnes, David Gable, Nathan Gable and Lisa Ann Marie Gable; sister, Emma Knirsch and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear, close friends, especially Anne Harwood. She was the best mother, grandmother and friend anyone could want and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007 at Heights Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 306 East 15th, Houston, Texas 77008. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
