The Heights Democratic Club is a neighborhood-based, subgroup in affiliation with the Harris County Democratic Party. It was established to promote the ideas and beliefs of the Democratic party. We achieve our mission by recruiting speakers for our members from candidates and elected officals at all levels of government. We are called the Greater Heights Democratic Club because we welcome members from adjacent areas to the Heights, particularly inside the Loop between I-10 and Loop 610. Actually we welcome anyone of any belief, as long as they help us promote Democratic causes and candidates.

Just in case anyone wins a lottery and wants to reinvest in Party activities….
At least it is nice to know

Senator John Whitmire Secures Funding for West 11th Street Park
Senator John Whitmire (D-Houston) is pleased to announce that today the Senate and House conferees adopted a state budget which includes $3.75 million in funding for the West 11th Street Park. "I am pleased we will now be able to pay off the existing loan and keep the remaining 5 acres of the West 11th Street Park. Preserving this park is crucial for the surrounding neighborhoods and for the City of Houston." Senator Whitmire included the $3.75 million in the budget for local parks grants within the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. Within the next few days, the budget will go before the full house and senate for final approval. ###
There are 20 acres of undeveloped land on W. 11th St near Ella Blvd that were previously owned by HISD which are desired for purchase as a neighborhood park. There is an August 15 deadline to make payment on a loan which would buy more time to raise the $3.5M to buy the entire 20 acres, vs. only 15. With the high density apratmetn under construction along 610 north of 18th St., the park is of even greater value to the neighborhood.
PBS (KUHT-8) this Mon, May 21 at 10:00 pm.
It will air again on Wed, May 23, at 3:00 am and 4:30 am.
In the meantime, visit http://www.hottowncoolcity.org/view/film/thefilm/ to learn more about the film, see a 12-minute "teaser," and preview some of the featured destinations.
Produced and directed by Maureen McNamara, this fantastic hour-long documentary is a joy to watch! I saw its premier a few months ago and it made me proud of our city. It’s like a travel journal of our home town, with a dozen vignettes that feature some of the best and most unique places in Houston. I even discovered two new favorite destinations because of Hot Town, Cool City!
