The Heights Democratic Club is a neighborhood-based, subgroup in affiliation with the Harris County Democratic Party. It was established to promote the ideas and beliefs of the Democratic party. We achieve our mission by recruiting speakers for our members from candidates and elected officals at all levels of government. We are called the Greater Heights Democratic Club because we welcome members from adjacent areas to the Heights, particularly inside the Loop between I-10 and Loop 610. Actually we welcome anyone of any belief, as long as they help us promote Democratic causes and candidates.
Join us for a great morning and get to know your community.
We will have yard signs, campaign materials, and we will also have "talking points" on many of the issues so you can discuss intelligently and persuade your friends!.
Have you had enough? VOTE Democratic!!
This clever video [above] isn’t local but it sure expresses our opinions!
We are also hosts for the happy hour David Van Os Rally, next Wed. Oct 18 . so we need to prepare for that: balloons, signs etc.
Location: Chatters Restaurant, 140 S. Heights Blvd. (Just south of the intersection at Heights Blvd. and Washington)
Oh so many activities coming up in preparation for the November elections. I thought a post would be in order to highlight some of the activites happening in and around the Heights area in the coming week.
Come and meet your neighbors and join in the discussion! Location: Chatter’s Restaurant at 140 S Heights Blvd (map). This month’s speaker is Sandra Puente, Director of Fundraising & Programs, Harris County [TEXAS] Democratic Party. She will also speak briefly about proposed City Charter Amendments the mayor and city council need for public safety and infrastructure.
Watch candidates debate in one of the hottest races in Harris County this election season. Our own PBS’ "The Connection" with David Jones (D) and Gary Polland (R) for this special one hour edition of "The Connection: Red, White and Blue" featuring both candidates.
The Heights Association is sponsoring this event at the Fire House, 12th & Yale. Entrants will either bicycle or skate a 15 mile course through inner-loop neighborhoods. The entire route is on City of Houston bike trails. Each entrant will be issued a rally card, rally map and a scavenger hunt clue list.
Meet David Van Os, Democratic Candidate for Attorney General of San Antonio. Our purpose is to put you in touch with the candidates and issues, so this is what we are doing! Come be part of his County-by-County, WhistleStop tour of every Texas courthouse and hear Van Os tackle big oil. Location: Chatter’s Restaurant at 140 S Heights Blvd (map).
Fresh with a new influx of cash, Chris Bell picked our Heights neighborhood as the location of a new TV ad!
Our resident shutterbugs were in full swing at the event, so we decided to post a few pics.

is BAD luck for Martha W(R)ong!!

Informally polling a number of people at yesterday’s voter registration drive, of course many missed the debates. Believe me I understand, it was terribly scheduled.
But thanks to KHOU.com we have an online rebroadcasting of the TX Gubernatorial debates.
I was also scrolling through the blogosphere and as usual Charles Kuffner’s Off The Kuff has a great post on Debate Reactions posted by area bloggers. The overwhelming consensus is that Democratic party candidate Chris Bell was articulate, intellegent, and had a sound strategy for Texas. Other candidates made some interesting claims during the interview, and the Bell Team takes them to task in Fact Checking the Debate. Go Dems!
more photos from our Voter Registration Drive
The voter registration drive was a great success! We met great new people in the community, registered tons of new voters, and address changes. We were also proud to see our Democratic candidates and Harris County leadership stop in.
As promised, the GHDC folks will quickly have your forms down to Paul Bettencourt’s office. Thanks to everyone who participated, and remember registration is half of the process.
Now its time to get out and VOTE! We have great opportunities in this November election cycle, but we need you to take advantage of them. Currently and in the coming weeks on the site we will have information on the early voter registration sites, as well as being a great spot for Democratic candidate information. Explore the site and once again lets get out and VOTE Dem!
Saturday, October 7, Voter Registration drive before Oct. 10 deadline!!
